Citation
Medal Of Honor

Criteria:  Heroic Action. An action undertaken for the purpose of saving or attempting to save the life of a human being who was in imminent danger of death, which action was in whole or in part performed by the member under circumstances and conditions involving a substantial probability of extremely serious injury or death of the member, and the performance of which was above and beyond the obligation of their duty.

Award:  Gold medallion with red ribbon. Gold bar with stars

Medal of Valor

Criteria:  An action undertaken for the purpose of removing or attempting to remove a human being from a place or position of danger and peril to life and limb, which act was in whole or in principal part performed by the member under circumstances and conditions involving great personal risk, and the performance of which was above and beyond the obligation of their duty.

Award: Gold medallion with white ribbon. White bar with gold trim

Medal of Merit

Criteria:  An action undertaken for the purpose of preserving or attempting to preserve life and property of the public or the department which was in imminent danger or destruction from fire or other disaster, which act was in whole or in part performed by the firefighter by an extraordinary exercise of physical effort. An action whereby a victim is removed from imminent danger, but where the firefighter being a trained professional and versed in the use of his or her equipment is not in imminent danger of his or her life.

Award:  Gold medallion with blue ribbon. Blue bar with gold trim.

Department Citation

Criteria:  Awarded to a member of the fire department for excellence in the performance of firefighting and non-firefighting duties, but to a lesser degree than that of the Medal of Merit.

Award:  A framed citation will be awarded to the recipient.

Distinguished Unit Citation

Criteria:  Awarded to a fire or ems rescue company for outstanding performance as a unit at an emergency.

Award:  A decal will be awarded to the company for placement on the officer's side of the apparatus. A framed citation will also be issued for display inside the station of the unit being recognized.

Distinguished Citizen Award

Criteria:  Awarded to a member of the public who has brought honor upon himself or herself in an effort to save life or property. Also, a member of the public or an organization that has made a significant contribution to the East Providence Fire Department may also be awarded the Distinguished Citizen Award.

Award:  A plaque will be awarded to the recipient.

Community Service Award

Criteria:  Awarded to a member who has brought honor upon himself or herself or the department through charity work or other type of community involvement.

Award:  A plaque will be awarded to the recipient.
