The East Providence Fire Department, through the State of Rhode Island Department of Emergency Management Agency and the State of Rhode Island Mutual Aid Plan, is one of seven state regional hazardous materials teams. These teams are trained to mitigate Haz-Mat incidents and WMD incidents throughout the State of Rhode Island.
As a state regional team, East Providence's first response area includes the cities and towns of; Barrington, Bristol, East Providence, Little Compton, Middletown, Newport, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Warren.
The team operates with a mobile haz-mat truck, Haz-Mat 1, and a combination unit consisting of Utility 1 with a Haz-Mat Trailer.
